Created and published by Bethesda Softworks, Fallout 3 was released in 2008 on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. This game had many firsts in the Fallout series. This game is the first Fallout to be both first and third person, and not isometric view, and also not turn-based. This is also the first game not created by Interplay Entertainment. Fallout 3 is also the first Fallout to be released on both consoles and PC. Fallout was created using the same game engine used for the Elder Scrolls series, which is also created by Bethesda. Fallout 3 takes place in 2277, which is 200 years after the bombs went off and 36 years after Fallout 2, but you also play for a while before that. You start of as a citizen of vault 101, where the experiment was to keep the vault closed permanently, to see how long civilization can survive while completely isolated from the rest of the world. When you turn 19, your dad, a scientist, escapes, and the higher up people in the vault come to find you to interrogate you. Before they can, you fight your way out of the vault to search around Washington D.C. and Virginia to find your dad. Every important landmark from Washington D.C. is in Fallout 3, including the White House (a big nuclear crater with some remnants), the Washington Monument, (partially crumbled), Smithsonian (lots of stuff looted and raiders took it over), and the Lincoln Monument (it has no head). After the main story, Bethesda created five more DLCs (Downloadable Content) which added on to the story of Fallout 3 that included aliens, going to space in UFOs, and going to Anchorage, Alaska. This game had some controversy, even after many called it one of the best games of all time. In the game, the player can use drugs to slow time, heal themselves, increase damage, increase radiation resistance, and increase accuracy. The player could also drink alcohol, and get addicted. Even past that, Fallout 3 was loved by many, and Bethesda started work on their next Fallout game almost immediately after the last DLC for Fallout 3 was released.
